The School
"I still dream of you" – Peter Msecho
So sings rapper Peter Msecho about Nianjema in a song about his days at Nianjema Secondary and High School. The song is on TV and radio throughout Tanzania.
Nianjema Adds Up to Success
Nianjema has grown from 90 students in 2000 to more than 300 students today and 25 teachers in 2010. In an area with students who once had no options beyond elementary school.
The secondary students—many of whom once had no opportunities beyond elementary school—are now on their way to university. Only 20% of the children of Tanzania currently attend secondary school.
The campus is expanding as well. Nianjema will dedicate a new high school complex this spring, made possible by a USAID grant, Six new classrooms, a larger library complex and a new science lab are in process. Work on dormitories and classroom buildings also continues.
What's New
Ambassador praises Nianjema Community “We thank you for reaching across continents to create educational opportunities for Tanzanian students,” said Tanzanian Ambassador Mwanaidi S. Maajarto the community of supporters gathered at the annual Nianjema Reception.Click for more on the reception & to see photos
New Headmaster for Nianjema “Good discipline for both teachers and students helps to improve academic performance,” says Anthony Emmanuel Nyenshile the new headmaster for the Nianjema Secondary and High School. His appointment is exciting not only because he was the first teacher employed at Nianjema but also because Mr. Nyenshile was able to complete his University degree through the generosity of Nianjema supporters (through the Tanzanian Education Fund).
Visit Nianjema and Tanzania this winter!
Tanzania is a thrilling country, especially during the migration, and there are still a few spaces available to join Classic Migration Safari with expert guides and beautiful, safari style housing (Jan 8 to 17) with optional extension to visit Nianjema Secondary and High School (Jan 17 to 19).
Things are really popping at Nianjema! 35 children are learning in the brand new primary school, under the direction of two Tanzanian teachers. Two new high school buildings, underwritten by USAID, are already in use. Nearby, four new hostels (dormitories) are under construction.
