MWK is a sustainable Tanzanian-run institution. All planning, building, and purchasing use local labor and are designed to be harmonious and beneficial for the local community. Buildings use local materials and school furniture is handmade by local artisans. MWK has inspired families to construct homes nearby for their children’s benefit, contributing dramatically to developing the area’s economy.
On campus, MWK Schools aim to create a total community. When teachers began to bring their families to MWK faculty housing, we created a self–sustaining nursery that also serves local children. Families are encouraged to attend parent activities, student shows, and athletic events. The Modern Medics Clinic, a collaborative MWK effort, will serve students, staff, and the surrounding area in Bagamoyo, Tanzania.
